Call For Papers



The Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Johannesburg will host the 2016 Annual Conference of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT 2016) in Johannesburg, South Africa from 26 - 28 September 2016.

The theme for SAICSIT 2016 is
      Innovate.
            Elevate.

The Conference Organising Committee hereby solicits submissions in the following categories: Full Research Papers; Masters & Doctoral Symposium Posters; Panels; Tutorials; and Workshops. All submissions should be in line with the areas of interest of SAICSIT, which are: computer science, information systems, information technology, software engineering and computer engineering (as defined by the ACM, AIS and IEEE-CS).

Full Research Papers

Submission Deadline: 10 June 2016 19 June 2016 (hard deadline)

Full research papers of a maximum of ten (10) pages are solicited which report on original, previously unpublished work in any of the topic areas of the conference. Such papers typically report on complete and mature research results.

All submissions are peer-reviewed by a panel consisting of both national and international experts and will be conducted in a double blind fashion. Papers will be considered based on their originality, relevance to the conference, technical and scientific merit as well as their presentation and clarity.

At least one author of all accepted papers must register for the conference and present the findings to the conference audience. Accepted papers will be published in a volume of the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series.

Submission Information
All submissions of full research papers should follow the new ACM International Conference Proceedings Series format. Submissions should be no longer than ten (10) pages. Submissions not following the format will not be accepted. All submissions should be in English. Only fully anonymised PDF documents should be submitted for review. Successful authors will be notified by 8 August 2016.

Masters & Doctoral Symposium

Submission Deadline: 18 July 2016

Postgraduate students at Masters and Doctoral level are invited to submit research in progress to the SAICSIT M&D Symposium. This gives students the opportunity to actively engage with their peers and established researchers on the topic of their research. Submissions should take the form of a 500 word poster abstract.

Authors of successful submissions will be required to present at a dedicated symposium on Monday, 26 September and to submit a poster for display during the main conference.

The symposium will be free of charge for all accepted participants and a reduced rate for the main conference will be extended to participants to encourage them to further engage with other conference delegates. The symposium is open to invited participants only.

Submission Information
Submissions to the M&D Symposium may only be made by currently enrolled Masters and Doctoral students. Abstracts of approximately 500 words, following the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series format should be submitted before 18 July 2016. Submissions not following the format will not be accepted. All submissions should be in English. Submissions for the M&D Symposium are not submitted blind and will be evaluated by the programme committee. Successful students will be notified by 8 August 2016.

Students whose submissions are accepted for presentation will be required to bring a poster of their research with them to the conference. Posters must be either A2 or A1 in size, and contain the student’s affiliation legibly on the poster. The posters will not be returned to students following the conference.

Panels, Tutorials and Workshops

Submission Deadline: 27 April 2016

Interested parties who wish to chair a panel during the main conference or who wish to present a tutorial or workshop on Monday 26 September 2016 are invited to submit in writing a proposal for their respective panel, tutorial or workshop via e-mail to committee@saicsit2016.org by the deadline.

All proposals should include the name and affiliation of the proposer and an abstract of between 500 and 1000 words as well as: for panels, a list of proposed panel members and their affiliations; for tutorials and workshops, the aim of the tutorial/workshop, a tentative programme, possible speakers and the expected outcomes.

Submission Information
Proposals for panels, tutorials and workshops must be submitted via e-mail to committee@saicsit2016.org no later than 27 April 2016. Submissions recieved after the deadline will not be considered. The Organising Committee will evaluate each proposal separately and provide feedback to the proposer by 23 May 2016.
